About Karen Sirnick
Predominantly a self-taught photographer who lives and creates in Ponte Vedra, FL. I share my home with my husband and a beloved rescue dog, Jax. As a child growing up in a family of 13, our vacations were mainly centered around camping and other outdoor activities. As a newlywed, my husband and I spent many of our vacations backpacking and camping in West Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. I continue to possess a deep love of nature and this subject has been a major influence in my photographic choices. I am currently retired and, although no longer backpacking, continue my passion for travel and photographing my journey. I would probably describe myself as a nature/landscape photographer. Though, that would only define a portion of my body of work. I love to travel and most of my images come from those destinations. During a workshop I once attended, the instructor said, you must first have something interesting to photograph. Travel has provided me with many wonderful opportunities for capturing interesting and beautiful images. I look for light, texture, shapes, and patterns that catch my eye whether it be in a city or rural setting. Another instructor told me that nature is messy, and it is your responsibility to make it beautiful. So,anything goes in my creative post-processing. I go wherever the image takes me. I use textures and painterly effects if they enhance the image and my vision for it. In an effort to enhance my photographic skills I continue to attend photography workshops and submit my images into juried exhibits and competitions both nationally and internationally. The continuing education has provided me with a variety of assignments, introduction to new software, exposure to a diversity of professional photographers, and invaluable photographic critique. I continue to explore new ideas and techniques in pursuit of creating beautiful and interesting images. My work has received awards in a number of juried exhibitions across the United States. My images also reside in numerous private collections. Additional images can also be seen at http://www.ktsirnick.smugmug.com.
